blueprint-964629__180Kalamazoo Area Building Authority (KABA) was created and established as a joint Construction Code Authority, and is a separate legal entity governed by an Authority Board established under Section 7 of the Urban Cooperation Act. Currently KABA regulates and controls building construction within Comstock Township, Kalamazoo Township, City of Parchment, Pine Grove Township, Richland Township, and the Village of Richland and has the power to administer and enforce the State Construction Code within the boundaries of each such unit.

KABA is managed by a Board consisting of one elected representative from each of its jurisdictions and one member-at-large.

The staff and Board members are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens by enforcing the Michigan Construction Codes while providing expedient turnaround from permit application submittal to the final inspection. Save

Mission

Our mission is to provide consistent building code administration and enforcement services for our member jurisdictions to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare of their residents. KABA ensures the necessary structural integrity, required means of egress facilities, sanitation, energy conservation, proper light and ventilation and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the building environment and provides safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations.  The KABA staff takes great pride in providing these services in a prompt and courteous manner.
