Instructions

  • No work shall commence until a permit has been obtained, and work shall not be concealed until it has been inspected.
  • When ready for an inspection, call KABA providing as much advance notice as possible (at least 24 hours). KABA will need the job location and/or the permit number, as well as any access instructions/on site contact information.
  • Every permit issued shall become invalid unless the work authorized by such permit is commenced within 180 days after its issuance, or if the work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days after the times the work is commenced.
  • $50 of the permit fee is non-refundable for cancelled permits.
  • “As Built” plans are required before a Certificate of Occupancy is issued for all Commercial projects and any Residential projects that have had changes made to the original drawings.
  • One (1) courtesy re-inspection per type with a $55 fee for every re-inspection.

Section 23a of the State Construction Code Act of 1972, 1972 PA 230, MCL 125.1523A, prohibits a person from conspiring to circumvent the licensing requirements of this state relating to persons who are to perform work on a residential building or a residential structure. Violators of Section 23a are subjected to civil fines.

  3. Scan it and fax to 269.250.9078. Mark it "Attention: Permits."
  4. Mail to: Kalamazoo Area Building Authority, Attn: Permits, 2322 Nazareth Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49048.
